Often called Bushwackers the Confederate forces in southwest Missouri fought a brutal guerrilla campaign against union neighbours and adjoining counties. Unlike the armies in the east there was no standard issue uniform and they often fought in a battle shirt embroidered by a mother or sweetheart.
