Then just for fun I decided to try my hand at Venetian Underpainting. Which uses Venetian Red and White to establish all the values, the colours "simply" glazed over the top. So he was a fierce-some pink vampire for about a week. It was an exercise to force my contrast. Certainly helped my understanding.
Then the rest was fluro green and blue (terribly transparent cheap paint), Black, Mars Red, and Purple. Just glazing away.
Went back in for the final highlights. Stared at it. Stared at it some more. Was disappointed when it was done. Had a lot of fun.
Entered it into the 2017 Crystal Dragon at CanCon. Where it bagged me a ton of goodies, winning The Judges Choice.
Photos by Casey. Because she has the nice gear and I'm rubbish.

Incredible version of this awesome bust. I would have loved to see all the intermediate steps, and that Venetian underpainting. It is so satisfying when every piece is a new exploration ahead own limits, especially if you end up with these amazing results.
