The Kipchaks, also known as Kipchak or Polovtsians, were a Turkic nomadic people and confederation that existed in the Middle Ages, inhabiting parts of the Eurasian Steppe. First mentioned in the 8th century , they most likely inhabited the Altai region from where they expanded over the following centuries, The Cuman–Kipchak confederation was conquered by the Mongols in the early 13th century.

They were numerous, culturally sophisticated, and militarily powerful.
