Here is my latest achievement, Saint Michael slaying the demon, piece edited in 3D on a 75 mm scale that I modified a little (addition of the demon's wings, modification of the spear and the base).
The set is fully painted with PA acrylics

Hi Eric, my thoughts and feedback on this project and why I voted silver, which is a high medal for it: The overall impression works really well and captures the theme really good. Every part is well done, individually, like the scales of the snake body, the wing texture, the stones, the wings, etc. but I think they are not connected. There is not an ambience to the scene that connects all colors, for example is this happening at night, in a dark dungeon, in a cave with dark ambience. The stones do transport this information from their sculpt, painted it is like:

    • Roman LappatPLUS

I paint stones grey, skin in skintone, clothes in clothes color, wings in wing color ... please do not take this as an offense: a bit like Playmobil. I do miss connection of the elements to make this stand out, to make it more dramatic. Also the light situation is the same over the full figure. Nothing is really dark, nothing shines in pure light. This subject, a holy Saint slaying a dark beast could be done with a more dramatic light situation. Leaving the enemy in darker colors to make his character darker, making the hero shine in a heavinly light to bring out his holy powers. The topic asks for it. It is not painted. Everything is at midday, noon, everything has the same light and no dramatic contrast work of light and shadow that makes the viewer focus on the difference of the characters or to guide the viewer’s eye to a certain important area of the duel ...

    • Roman LappatPLUS

In detail I see the skintone painted well and light and shadow on it placed. I see no natural skintone variation. Someone who is slain might be full of anger and anger makes the cheeks more reddish, he is crawling over sharp stones but is not wounded or has no skin irritations that make him look more alive. Both have the same skincolor, which also transfer back to adding more contrast between two characters if one would be more pale or darker skinned. The gold NMM does not work for me as it does not transport the information of light, shadow and environment reflection on gold metal to me. The hair has the same color as the gold and does not differ as a material.

    • Roman LappatPLUS

The black hair reflects the light just like a stone, while hair usually has a more satin look compared to stone, means the material of hair reflects light differently.

You can observe these things in nature, in real life when you work with references. I think your paintjobs can benefit greatly if you observe and understand the material better that you are about to paint.

Overall this is a well painted figure, but I do miss these points above to vote Gold. So, silver is a high vote for this project.

I hope you do not take the feedback as a offense as you asked for it. Just my honest oppinion and thoughts on it.

  • eric wolfsPLUS

Thank you very much for this long answer, Roman. Here are many arguments that will help me progress, I hope. There is absolutely no offense, and as I said before, a silver vote from you, I consider it as a mark of merit. Thank you again for the time you took to answer me so well., and I measure the progress I have to go.

    • Roman LappatPLUS

Happy to hear that you do not take this as an offense. You are very welcome and I hope my feedback can inspire and help!

    Hallo Eric,

Or !
