After finishing a couple of fantasy pieces it was time to get a new historical figure done, and this bust jumped out from the queue :) I found source material from 300 BC fairly limited so I picked a surviving piece of art as the basis for my tunic and shield design.
One small change I made to the sculpt was to move the spear arm lower rather than being angled more above the shield. This was done as I painted most of the torso before attaching the arms, and then realised the spear arm was positioned so close to the chest it blocked a lot of it from visibility. Along with opening up the chest I also thought it might make the large shield feel a little less like it hung below the rest of the figure, with the spear angled lower across it. I had to cut away a little bit of the upper arm and resculpt it to fit the new angle but I'm happy with the outcome of that :)
Really enjoyed this one.
