Demophilos, son of Diadromeus, was the general of the Thespians at Thermopylae, who with his 700 hoplites stood alongside King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans until the end.
They wore black, dedicated to Melaena Aphrodite, goddess of the Moon and of Darkness.

The composite meander that adorns his epaulettes was a typical Greek geometric decorative motif
