Pierre Gerlofs Donia (1480 – 1520) or "Grand Pierre" (Grutte Pier) is a Frisian fighter for independence and a pirate. A descendant of the famous Frisian chieftain Haring Harinxma. Was known for the huge (2 meters) growth and physical strength. Successfully fought in the Geldern war against the Habsburgs
The ships of the fleet of Donia, nicknamed "Arumer Zwarte Hoop" ("black hope Aruma"), caused great damage to the Dutch and Burgundy shipping. After the capture of 28 Dutch ships in one battle, Big Pierre solemnly declared himself the "king of friesia" and set a course for the liberation and unification of his native country.
Currently, the Friesian Museum keeps his sword length of 2.15 m and weight B6, 6kg
