Publius Horatius Cocles was a centurion in the roman army, who defended the narrow end of the Pons Sublicius. He and his two companions were able to hold off the attacking army of Lars Porsenna, the Etruscan king of Clusium, long enough to destroy the bridge behind them and saving the city of Rome.
