I have been in love with the cyberpunk genre for some time now and really wanted to do something more with it. I love the frequent use of very vibrant colours in cyberpunk art and thought it would be interesting to tap into that. I also wanted to try to tell a story with very, in as simple a way as possible - or at least hint at a story.
My idea was to paint the shadow dissolving into pixels to touch on the theme of compromising with your beliefs to achieve some (greater?) goal. I think that theme seems to be an important aspect of the cyberpunk genre.
On the more technical side the figure was painted over a bright red/pink underpainting. I let the red peek through the turqoise in places to work as a kind og osl, and to emphasise the electronic/digital parts of the figure and to make the painting a bit more "alive". The red lends a bit more contrast to an otherwise monochrome paintjob,
I painted this in a rather short time, focusing more on the overall story and colour scheme, rather than trying to paint perfectly. I wanted to go for at lively paintjob, with visible brushstrokes and vibrant colours - And rarely have I enjoyed painting something that much.
