On May 30, 1431, exactly 592 years ago, Joan of Arc, the maiden of Orleans, was burned alive in Rouen. The brave girl was able to repel the English during the Hundred Years' War and helped the French dauphin to take his place on the throne, to become the national heroine of France. She fell victim to treachery and was numbered among the saints.
