What a unique piece. The backdrop supports this very much. But I think that the mini itself is painted very nicely. The standouts are the freehands, of course. My favourite must be the small flowers on the hilt of the sword. And the overall contrast and light work is really nicely done it ties the whole piece together.

I love so many things about this piece, from the detailed clothing prints (and on the back!), to the wood work and texture ... but what I appreciate most is the light source and how well it is sold. Not only is the light source NOT coming from above, but instead of just to the side it’s actually from a little below! I really like how the top is dark and how the plinth’s corner is also painted yellow to sell the direction of the light. Amazing use of a pedestal to not just simply hold or accent a painting, but to so simplistically tell you WHY this piece is so different from most others. Bravo!
