Taking inspiration from the top movie, The Gangs of New York, and from some images of reenactment of that period, I wanted to create the figure of a strong and emancipated women living in the slum of the Five Points.
The woman is portrayed during a brief moment of rest from her hard work, while looking at the swarm of people that enliven the neighbourhood.
The facade of the emporium was made using a still image as reference, taken from the scenography of the same epic movie, while the dress of the woman is an ensemble of different historical images from 19th century.

This base alone deserves a gold medal. Lovely composition and realistic touch of that time period. It catapults you back into the movie. The paintjob on her is not 100% the greatest of all time, but overall this diorama with color choices and the careful appied level of detail is super lovely! Gold from my side! Keep on happy painting!
