An experiment with dark cast shadows.
I tried to capture the volumes in the shadows in the pictures but unfortunately this is the most I can manage without blowing out the lit areas. The glare was also a headache to get around

    Striking and beautiful. I’ve been attempting a similar experiment on a bust (with light coming from below) and failing - partly for similar reasons you mention (reflected glare from actual ambient light on the dark parts - in my case affecting how it looks in hand from most angles) - so it’s good to know this can be done successfully
