This one is Vesha by Bold Miniatures, 3D printed for the Season 3 Paint Club Vancouver Miniature Painters (VMP). I painted her inspired by myself - the sheer shirt is a mix of a favorite summer time shirt and a favorite fabric pattern of mine. My hair was teal at the time of painting. I have a faux-fur trimmed denim jacket. The patch on the back has my research group's unofficial logo - a figure of part of my PhD research. The logo is of the silicon-oxygen tetrahedra that form structural channels in beryl, and therefore, emerald. That choice was made as a "like myself" instead of "artistically" so it may not fit the piece perfectly, but fits me.

In my Facebook painting page I have included a photo of myself in the inspired outfit (although the hair dye is a bit faded by that point). https://www.facebook.com/CyradisMinisAndMinerals

Note! As of June 18, 2021, I put up new photos of this project, because I took much better photos that weren't awfully washed out.

Please, stop vote bronze for all my realisations. If you don’t like it, don’t vote !!

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Please stop coming to my posts to harass me about how I vote on your items. A bronze is not a mark of shame.

Flaws on this piece of mine? A few spots where I didn’t clean up the print well enough. The patch on the back should have been done with a cool beige instead of a yellow-beige as the base. I could have more aggressively pursued highlights on the hair. The texturing of the denim is inconsistent across the chest and the arms. I love how this piece of mine turned out, and I welcome anyone to give it whatever medal they feel is appropriate - none, thumbs, bronze, silver, or gold. I personally would put it at a mid-silver if I was judging myself generously.

    • eric wolfsPLUS

I came to your post because you didn’t have the courage to comment on any of your votes on my accomplishments so that I could respond. Anyway, fear not, given the nature of your completely gratuitous and nasty reviews, and the high opinion that you seem to have of yourself, I would rather ignore you now.

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

It isn’t about courage or lack thereof. I didn’t have anything to add regarding the votes I cast. No one is obligated to post a comment. Why would I fear? If you will stop harassing me, I’ll be downright happy. Stop harassing other people who are honest with their votes. No one should be told how to vote, period.

A bronze vote isn’t a nasty review. It says that the piece is enjoyable but could use improvement. Fair critique isn’t nasty. I did not curse upon your work. I did not regard it with scorn. Then you come to MY work and hassle me about YOUR votes. That is unprofessional and uncalled for.

    • Philip PrinzPLUS

@eric please stop these negative comments. Again bronze is not a bad thing. All three medals are positive. Gold more than bronze of course.
You cannot complain that Rhiana has no courage to comment and at the same time feel of offended when she leaves you a good comment with a valid critique.
Remember this is supposed to be fun. Opinions are different. And both sides are not voting to harm the other side.
The four types of medals are there for a reason. See bronzes and props as motivation to work harder on your next project.

      Be friendly guys.

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Thank you, Philip. I try do stay positive in comments I leave, and felt rather defensive here on my own posts and to the other good fellow who was being bothered.
May this be an end to the troubles, and all of us shall have a lovely time painting.

  • Francois "Frado" Daugny

very nice job, full of subtle details. Great!!

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Thank you! The details were pretty fun to work with. Strangely enough when deciding to go with my sheer T-shirt and bra combo, it came up because I was kinda scared to try doing a logo print. Text is difficult to get right. Whimsical has large margins of error and can still look good!

  • Eamon Connerty

Nice work! Love the sheer top, nice touch!

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Thank you! About time for painting a non-sensual non-sexual sheer. Just a comfy summer shirt! :)

    • Eamon Connerty

Absolutely! Has that been washed to many times look.

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

The shirt that inspired it definitely has been well-worn!

  • Adam

Your textures are really great on the cloths, the sheer top and the jacket are particularly impressive to me. Well done!

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Thanks! They were really fun to paint - although somehow the sleeves were a bit of a nuisance to get positioned right for it!

  • Andrey Miroshnichenko

    Great painting, positive work! Gold!

  • EntrevonPLUS

Le visage est beaucoup trop plat, manque de relief !

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

I can see that in the photos. Holding her in person I see much more pink and orange; the colors have been quite washed out by the lighting as I have trouble getting that right. Even the blues of her hair aren’t vibrant enough in the photos - but I can see how vivid they are when I see her across the room on my shelf.

  • EntrevonPLUS

    Comme a écrit @Eric, ne votez plus ! ou renseignez vous sur l’attribution des notes !!;

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Why should I not be voting, if I am voting according to the standards set by the website creators?

  • Max RichieroPLUS

Try to work on your figure with coloured shadows and lights. Your white is only white and your blue is only blu. You can put some violet shadows and yellow light on this bust! (Just an example). Is a clean and good job but you can improve your skill if you put more colours on your palette! Excuse me for my bad english! Cheers :)

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Thank you for the kind suggestions! I do often like to paint like that. This one a bit less on focused lighting due to the topic. I do actually have some better photos now that don’t wash her out nearly as much. The shadows on the skin/shirt have a bit of blue to them.

  • Jakob VPLUS

Great work overall. I agree with some comments but really love the piece. Mostly I just love that shirt and blue shining through.

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Thanks! The shirt really was the highlight of painting this piece. Often I pick one aspect to focus on trying something new or ambitious, and that’s the part that got it this time.

  • Matteo

Sorry if I have to write here, but unfortunately there is no private messaging. I see that I am not the only one and I am sorry to have to speak on the same topic. Thank you for your interest and the vote of my latest works, thank you for the feedbacks and the silver votes, but kindly if you vote bronze I would appreciate a feedback from you that justifies this vote, I understand that it is not a competition, that we are all lovers of the same passion and that the medals are “just to play” (more or less since I always link my customers on my page here) but I think it is useful for everyone’s growth that low ratings are justified in some way. So I ask you in the future please comment explaining your reasons, I will be happy to speak and discuss how I can improve myself in the part where you think I was wrong. Thank you!

For the moderators, I apologize but, at least for me, the “flag” doesn’t work, it crashes.

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

      Hi Matteo,
I do not view a bronze as a mark of shame. I tend to post feedback and critique when a painter specifically asks for C&C on this page, not otherwise. I would be glad to chat about how we can improve as painters, but I admit that I hesitate because you came here to pile on the anger at me.
Honestly my only disappointment on bronzes that I’ve received is because lately I know some are out of spite, and that makes me sad. I have a few pieces up that really should be bronzes (my black panther and fairy figures - a 1 day paint job, and one I did years ago), and some that I know shouldn’t be, and I am sure that none of my pieces are golds.

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

I gave you my thoughts on your piece - I hope that helps. Please just make a note for C&C on yours as a cue for others to do so! I do enjoy talking about how to improve painting.

    • Matteo

I understand your point, Thank you to spending your time to answer me and giving your feedback, I appreciate it.

  • KevinCollier-Corsair

Cyradis is a fine lady who conducts herself honestly. Aside from her skills, she has been honest. If you do not want honest feedback and voting, then don’t post your work!

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Thanks, Kevin. I know I have some talent, but part of that is in being able to pick out where I can improve and do better. I did the fancy shirt on this piece in part because it is an illusion to hide things I’m not as good at ;) Thank goodness the pictures aren’t of the underside of her arms - the denim pattern got super coarse there!
      I appreciate the support!

  • Philip PrinzPLUS

Hi everyone, please remember also a bronze is a good thing. Not only gold. And of course bronze has not the same value as gold.

Everyone should be more concerned if all those golds are sincere or just to get a gold back. A honest bonze is much more worth for your artistic development than a gold that was just voted to get a gold back.

Please stop spreading rumours about users being a sniper, hacker or other silly things.

Thank you. Keep on happy painting!
And be inspired by the projects here not by numbers.

  • KevinCollier-Corsair

@philip prinz, well said sir. I am strictly tabletop game quality, so I do appreciate and envy those with greater skills.

  • Herman aka Glitterwolf

    Gold!

To the people who think she’s not real, I know her, she’s real.
Stop acting like you’ve been hurt.
Many hobby forums went down because of such negative behaviour.
Be happy with a vote or ignore if you don’t like something or someone please.

  • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Heyo! June 18, 2021: I put up new pictures that while not perfect, they aren’t horribly washed out. Still don’t have an ideal setup, but I improved on the old one. Hope you like it!

  • KevinCollier-Corsair

    Even more vibrant!
PS, I especially like “Crowley” on her shoulder!

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Yeah! Getting the camera to play nice helped a ton!
The critter turned out quite pleasing, and kinda soft looking. I think he’s supposed to be a ferret though. I have the selfie posing with the figure though and my bearded dragon substitutes on the shoulder. Paint job was done to emulate my own wardrobe, profession, and hair at the time. But I have a lizard, not a fuzz ball pet ;)

    • Herman aka Glitterwolf

      Hello Kevin!

  • "SCV Park" Yeong Min

    Very Good Texture painting~!! good job~! Gold~

  • KevinCollier-Corsair

I have to say the two most impressive things to me are the lovely and delicate lacework on her blouse and the wonderful job yo accomplished in the left eye being partially obscured under her lock of hair. Really quite impressive.

    And Hiya Herman!

  • Henk

These photos do it so much more justice, the detail comes out much beter.
I very much like the sheer effect on the shirt, I may ‘borrow’ that on my next project…lol.

As for the people whinging about getting a bronze vote, grow up…  to be honest, I see a lot of Gold votes which are at best lazy, if not cast because people are worried about offending others.  My own work here, pleasing as it may be, rarely merits the gold votes that I get.  I rarely vote with the medals.  I rather leave a comment, pointing out what I particularly like.

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Thanks Henk! The sheer shirt was a lot of fun to paint and went fairly smoothly to execute. Just took some planning and thin paint. Happy to give you pointers on this sort of thing if you want to pester me :) Yeah these photos turned out much better. Not all washed out like the old ones.

The voting drama is… ridiculous. My world doesn’t collapse if I’m told my paintbrush isn’t a holy magic wand of awesomeness, lol. I paint nice stuff, but I’m not a master.

    • Henk

Sorry, meant to reply a bit quicker, but sometimes life runs away, and before you know it…
Yeah, how did you do the sheer effect?  Detail first and light translucent white layers, or white first?  I’ve experimented a bit, but not really got the result yet.  I have a piece that would really look good with this effect, but presently working on something a bit more familiar, using washes and glazes.

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Hi Henk! No worries on timing. Life happens. I am glad to share my process! I first pretended that the shirt and bra didn’t exist. I painted the torso with the skin tones first, imagining the wrinkles of the cloth weren’t there. Shaded it a bit too. Then I did the same for the blue bra - I painted it and shaded it on top of the skin. Then I glazed the shirt in…

I had more details typed but there is a character limit. Feel free to message me on my FB page and I can give you more details and the word-doc I made on the process :) Miniature Painting and Mineralogy by Cyradis is the page.

  • Stu H

Argh, I pressed the wrong button… my first time able to vote.  Should have been gold as I love this one

    • Rhiana, "Cyradis"

Hah no worries. I don’t personally think she’s quite gold worthy, but I am flattered that you think so highly of her :) I do wish there was an option to change your vote on here for sake of misclicks - I’ve done that before too!

Its the backpatch that I just got a bit too discordant…. should’ve used a less yellow beige for it. More white. I also know where the distinct flaws on the figure are and they are cleverly not emphasized in the photos lol

  • Stu H

Argh pressed the wrong button. First time voting and messed up. Love this one… should be gold.
