This is my 2022 US Golden Demon Duel entry. I was fortunate to receive a gold with this depiction of a pivotal fight between two Demi-gods within the vendors lore. It was quite the experience to balance the considerations of a vendor-specific painting competition and, probably the last two years, of my artitist development. It’s not a jab at these kinds of events, simply acknowledging the expectation management side of entering something with such an established background and image. My two cents…I think as long as you are truly aware and ok with that aspect, you can enter appreciating the environment and have fun.
Even though I would have loved to depict a much more dramatic, graphic rendition of this story, I decided these would be too far of a deviation on how the vendor usually portrays their work, so kept it a little more simple but still had fun. It was ultimately very rewarding to try and create the visual epitome of this scene, something that can be perpetually referenced by other fans when thinking of this tale. Its littered with details for a GW fan to examine and remember; as well as appealing to a casual viewer. I would attribute its success in the vendors event primarily on that.

    Beautiful job dude, I love seeing all the little details and Easter eggs within the diorama. It does make me wonder what you would have produced had you not built and painted it more in line with GW’s competition expectations….version 2 maybe ;p
