Pedro Fernández Works, 100mm

In private collection.

Breathing life into this bust was an absolute blast. While dark skin is often difficult I decided to let it work with intentional strong brushstrokes and a pure dance of color plays. Inspired by Jane French's art I really enjoyed painting this bust out of the ordinary. This bust shows again why Pedro Fernández Rámos is one of my favourite sculptors in the world of miniatures. I hope you like my version.

You can find a lot of Work in Progress Insight and explanation via my Patreon.

Attached you can see photos on grey background, plus size comparision to a bottle of paint, plus a photo in the cabinet beside other figures to provide a true sense of how the bust looks.
Keep on happy painting!
Roman

This, again, is a wonderful and inspiring work of art, Roman. The depth and complexity of the skintones is super-nice and the paintjob loses nothing at all from not being cleanly-blended! For me, however, the overall mood and atmosphere is what makes this so outstanding - with that glitter and the various specks of colored light, I just can feel her enjoying a fantastic party night out!

    Really well done, brother!

    • Roman LappatPLUS

Thanks so much, David. I am happy that the “not so clean blends” are no problem here. Fun fact is: If I would have done clean blends I would have killed the painterly effect. I am happy that you see it this way too and that you like my version of this bust. Glad you like her!

  • Andreas P - HanzPetersen

Really enjoy the expressive result on the whole miniature - the skintone, the glitter, the disco mood… absolutely great <3

What a time travel to Studio 54, very successful glitter effect and disco lights.

Absolutely, Eduardo. Studio 54, she is a pure Disco Queen. Thank you!

    Glitter for the win :-)

You know, I’ve often sat and thought about how I’d render a lot of changing lights, pulsing, flashing club atmosphere on something and it’s been bouncing around in my head for years.

Then I get this fantastic turn sharply left (into a ravine, per GPS instructions) on this bust of yours, because I’ve been following the WIPs and damn that’s definitely a way to do it and it looks fantastic.

    Love it Roman.

    • Roman LappatPLUS

I am very happy to hear that from you as I see you as one of the strong creative miniature painters in this world with your very unique projects and approaches. Thank you for following and supporting along via my Patreon. I am happy that you enjoy it over there! Thank you, Kyle!

Ce choix de couleurs respire la fête et le carnaval. On entend presque résonner les batucada. Or

    • Roman LappatPLUS

This was actually the goal: Making the color choices feel like Carneval or a Disco Party in the 70s. Merci!

    It’s beautiful. good job!

  • Štěpán Tichý

Damn. There are many things, which baffle me and I completely adore this bust. First of all, I am struck by the colours, of course. The bust of colours are everywhere and the contrast they play is singing disco music and club and joy. There really are such great vibes from this one. But then I saw that green of yours again in the afro and damn, such a subtle detail, yet it works brilliantly. My next point is how the brushstrokes really help push this piece more to the abstract part of miniatures. I am sure it would be great even more refined, but in this rough, raw style it looks really superb. Love it.

    • Roman LappatPLUS

Thanks a ton, Štěpán. Again, your eagle eye catches my use of greens everywhere. Lovely to see. Really happy that you like this bust of mine. I even had the fear with more defintion and painting this less raw it would lose big time. Thank you for your kind comment!
