Three highland cow busts going from realistic to colorful to neon.

On the last family vacation to Scotland colorful paintings of highland cows were all the rage. I immediately felt that this was a project I want to do. At that time I couldn’t find a proper sculpt though and the idea went to the back log.

Two month ago Maya Pantic of animal_den_minatures published a line of highland cows which I loved immediately. I printed the bust twice to check the best way to support the bust. Both came out excellent and I decided to do a “triptych”.

Lots of fun painting all three and playing with color.

I also have a transition in the bases. The first two are made out of wood. The realistic cow got a natural colored wooden base which was roughed up with a belt sander to give it a used feel of a fence post. The second one was made the same way but much smoother and oiled in a darker tone. The last one is a resin printed base which I designed to have a similar shape as the other two.

Each cow in this triptych looks very bright and colorful but at the same somehow organically united into a single piece! It is wonderful project!
